Body found at home of embattled ex-Snohomish County official

A body was discovered at the home of an ex-Snohomish County official under investigation for allegedly using public funds on home upgrades and other personal purchases.

Deputies discovered the body on Saturday at a home in the 3200 block of 264th Street NE in Arlington, according to Shari Ireton with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Foul play isn’t suspected, but the medical examiner will identify the body and determine a cause of death, Ireton said.

Lynnwood police are handling the investigation into Mark McDermott, the former director of SERS, the Snohomish County Emergency Radio System. A Lynnwood police commander said they were notified of the death but declined to comment further.

Lynnwood police detectives say Mark McDermott may be linked to tens of thousands of dollars in fraudulent purchases on the public agency’s dime. He was arrested late last year and police have been investigating ever since. Detectives just recently filed a second search warrant to search his Arlington home. Read more…
